The Landmark London's Hotel Manager receives an Honorary Degree
from the Glion Institute of Higher Education Switzerland
Douglas Glen, the Hotel Manager at the five-star deluxe Landmark London hotel, has been awarded an honorary degree from the Glion Institute of Higher Education in Switzerland. Mr. Glen received the prestigious degree in a graduation ceremony on 12 December 2008, for recognition of his involvement in services to the hospitality industry.
For the past seven years The Landmark London has been recruiting students from four different hotel schools in Switzerland, based in La Roche, Glion, Bulle and Lausanne, as well as UK universities such as Thames Valley, Bournemouth and Westminster Kingsway College. The Landmark chooses to recruit from Switzerland and the UK as these countries are known for producing the highest calibre of hospitality students in the world.
A total of 15 trainees are accepted into various departments every six months. The Landmark also recruits six to eight students a year into various programmes such as “Room Division Associates”, giving students the opportunity to gain invaluable first-hand experience of working in a five-star hotel in one of the most exciting cities in the world. Students spend the first nine months in the Revenue Centre, followed by nine months in Front Office and nine months in Event Sales. The Landmark also offers Graduate Training and direct entry to the students.
Following their internship at The Landmark London, a large number of students return after their degree to be employed in a full time role. For Glion, The Landmark London presents the second-largest employer in the world. The school even features a dedicated classroom called “The Landmark”.
Mr. Glen is delighted to have been awarded this prestigious degree and is looking forward to continuing The Landmark London's successful partnership with the Glion Institute.
